Roles

Below are the various ROLES that are an integral part of our Honor Flights:

Leader / Coordinator – Arrange and delegate ALL the arrangements for the day of the flight.  Match up Veterans with Guardians. Run the Pre-Flight meeting. Dozens of check-off lists!

Veterans – To enjoy the day and experience as much of the D.C. memorials as possible.  To stay with our team, especially your own guardian.

Guardians – To ensure all Veteran(s) are safe and to physically assist each Veteran(s) from departure and return to include traveling on assigned bus and remaining within close proximity at each Memorial (allowing Veteran(s) personal and emotional space).  The Guardian’s total focus is the escorted Veteran(s) and that the Veteran(s) fully experiences this special day.

Medical Team – To ensure all Veterans are safe and respond immediately to any and all potential medical issues.  To be responsible for ensuring the safety of all Veterans during boarding and de-boarding of aircraft as well as buses.

Bus CaptainsROLL CALL at each stop throughout the day.  Wheelchair accommodations as we exit / enter the buses. Make sure the bus stairs are secure at each stop. Troubleshoot veteran or guardian issues. Announce times during the day for departures for the next stop. Remind the Veterans and Guardians about ‘Things to Remember’ throughout the day. Help pass out snacks / drinks throughout the day.

Pre-Flight Meeting Volunteers – Registration Desk for Veterans and Guardians, Clothing dispersion for Veterans and Guardians, Food snacks, Medical verification for the Veterans and general greeters for the morning.
